Gemälde von François Poggi (1838-1900)

I got a painting by François Poggi (1838-1900) (at artnet) that was found in the rubbish….

…sometimes it’s interesting what people throw away. Admittedly, by today’s standards it’s rather boring, but is that a reason to throw it away?

According to a later inscription on the reverse, the title is “Alte Steintreppe vor bäuerlichem Gehöft” (Old stone staircase in front of a farmstead).

François Poggi (1838–1900) was a 19th-century Swiss painter who was born in Italy. He moved to Genoa with his parents. There he became known primarily as a painter (oil, watercolour), pastel artist, lithographer and decorative painter.
