"Lesende" (Reading woman) by Paul Wunderlich (1927-2010)

I’ve found a linocut by Paul Wunderlich (1927–2010) (on artnet)…

Paul Wunderlich studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts from 1947 (alongside, for example, Horst Janssen). From 1963 to 1968, he was a professor at the HfbK in Hamburg.

He is particularly known for his erotic to mystical-looking depictions; his style can be described as Surrealism, a style he developed from around 1959. In 1960, a series of his lithographs was confiscated by the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office on grounds of “obscene depictions”.

The Paul Wunderlich House (German) has a further print in its collection. The print does not appear in his catalogue raisonné, as this only documents his work from 1948 onwards; the print is dated 1946.
